Data Formatting
TypeFlow automatically formats your data using Airtable metadata and your locale settings.
Overview
TypeFlow handles data formatting automatically by:
- Using your Airtable field settings for dates
- Using your TypeFlow locale for currencies and numbers
In most cases, you don't need to do anything - your data will appear correctly formatted.
Date Formatting
Automatic Formatting
Dates display exactly as configured in your Airtable date field. If your Airtable shows "January 15, 2026", that's what appears in your PDF.
Using Today's Date
To insert the current date in your document:
- Add a variable in your template:
{{TodayDate}} - In TypeFlow, map it to the internal "Today's Date" variable
- Configure the format as needed
Date Format Examples
| Airtable Format | Result |
|---|---|
| Local | 1/15/2026 |
| Friendly | January 15, 2026 |
| US | 01/15/2026 |
| European | 15/01/2026 |
| ISO | 2026-01-15 |
Currency Formatting
Locale-Based Formatting
Currencies are formatted based on your locale setting in TypeFlow.

Setting Your Locale

Important: Choose your locale carefully - it affects how all numbers and currencies display in your documents.
Number Formatting
Default Format
By default, numbers display as entered: 20000.00
Locale-Specific Formatting
When you enable locale settings, numbers format according to regional standards:
| Locale | 20000 Displays As |
|---|---|
| US | 20,000.00 |
| France | 20 000,00 |
| Germany | 20.000,00 |
Decimal Places
Decimal formatting follows your Airtable number field configuration.
FAQ
How are dates formatted?
Dates display exactly as configured in Airtable. TypeFlow uses your Airtable metadata to apply the correct format automatically.
How do I format currencies?
Currencies are automatically formatted based on your locale settings in TypeFlow. Select your locale to match your region (e.g., US for $1,000.00 or France for 1 000,00 €).
Can I use today's date in my document?
Yes. Map TypeFlow's internal "today's date" variable to any Google Docs variable. You can adjust its formatting as needed.
Why do my numbers look wrong?
Check your locale setting in TypeFlow. If you're in France but using US locale, numbers will format with American conventions (commas for thousands, periods for decimals).
